Reasons why you should learn Chinese

Is it worthwhile to learn Chinese? Is it going to be helpful for you?  The answer is Yes!  Here are some reasons why you should start learning Chinese.

 

First of all, there are 1 billion people who speak Chinese, and there are 900 million of those are native speaks who use Chinese as their first language.  What’s more, not just in China, people use Chinese, in Hongkong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and around the world.  You can easily find people to talk to you in Chinese, Chinese speakers are everywhere, not just in mainland China.  With first and second language combined that makes Chinese the most widely spoken language in the world.

 

Second, Chinese grammar is rather simple. There is no verb conjugation in Chinese.  Also, the Chinese characters are not as hard as you think they are, and each Chinese character tells a story. You can really trace the characters through history and see where things have come from.  It's actually quite interesting to learn; like some characters you can tell what it means just by how it is shaped.  For example, the Chinese Character 月 is moon, is mountain, some Chinese Characters like those are easy to understand and recognize.

 

Third, Chinese is one of the oldest languages in the world. The first examples of written Chinese data back to around 1200CB.  It proves that Chinese has plenty of history to probe into as you learn more and more Chinese. In addition, if you know the language, you can understand and embrace the culture better. Whether it’s the various cuisines from Beijing, Sichuan to Canton, all the Chinese movies, the literature, the custom, different ethnics, traditional festivals......There must be something you will be interested in.

 

Fourth, it's easier to travel. Because China is so big, there is so much great stuff to see, such as deserts, grottoes, Gobis, Harbin Ice Sculpture, terraces, Tiger leaping gorge, ancient water towns, the Great Wall, the reed flute cave, the Forbidden City, the Terracotta Warriors and the Panda Base in Sichuan....... it’s a colourful land to explore. 

 

Last but not least, if you live in China, but you can’t speak Chinese, your daily life can be a bit frustrating. On the other hand, If you can speak Chinese, you can talk to the people, you won’t get ripped off, and be able to understand Chinese people more.
